How does laser acne treatment work
The treatment uses an invisible laser light which interacts with a porphoryn in the bacterial cell. This interaction causes the generation of free radicals in the form of oxygen molecules which in turn destroy the bacteria present in the acne breakout. Once the bacteria are destroyed the inflammation will reduce rapidly and the skin will return to normal. Fotona Laser treatment also has a collagen replenishment application, which helps repair the damage caused by acne infection and improves acne scarring. As a result the treatment has a long lasting beneficial effect on acne and the overall texture of the skin.
How many treatments are required?
For mild to moderate acne, a single treatment is sufficient to suppress acne for up to three months and possibly longer. Maintenance treatments may be required and this will depend on the individual. For severe acne more frequent treatment is recommended, typically 3 treatments one month apart. The treatment itself is very fast with a full face area treated in less than 30 minutes. Results are normally seen within two weeks with continued improvement over the following three months.
Is it painful?
Fotona laser acne treatment is non-invasive and in most cases painless. The patient will experience a momentary warming of the skin as the laser is applied to the treatment area.
Is it safe?
Fotona’s Laser technology uses invisible light, which is in the safe end of the light spectrum. Potential side effects are minimal and short-lived. Treatment is provided by medical professionals and trained laser operators.
